Sample Use of IDEEA in Research

Quantify the type, duration, frequency, and intensity of various physical activities in free living for a diversified population
IDEEA can help to evaluate: the common types of activities, speed of locomotion, and EE during work in an office, factory, or in the field, class time in school, leisure time at home, military training or expedition, or most indoor/outdoor activities. You can also assess the onset, duration, frequency, intensity, and amount of PA/exercise during these activities; the contribution of each category of PA/exercise to the total amount of PA/exercise; and types and duration of sedentary activities and resting periods among free-living adults.
Estimate long-term variations in physical activities (such as labor, work, and leisure), and energy requirement during these activities and their relations with body composition and weight regulation. IDEEA system can answer these questions:
What is the amount of energy expenditure caused by physical activity/exercise (EEact) during free-living?
What is the variation in EEact for a person?
Are there patterns, either temporal or event-related, in this variation? If yes, do they exist on a daily, weekly, or seasonal basis?
Are there any relationships among total physical activity/exercise, energy expenditure, body composition, gender, age, and fitness level?
What is the long-term relationship between type, intensity, duration, and frequency of voluntary exercise or job requirement and body composition, body weight?
Help in determining reasons for within- and between- subjects variation in physical activity.IDEEA can help to investigate these questions:
Is there a relationship between changes in energy intake and in the amount and pattern of physical activity or labor?
Is there a long-term correlation (such as seasonal changes) between body composition and the amount and intensity of physical activity or labor?
What are the potential determinants that influence physical activity during work or leisure time? Are those occupational, seasonal, societal, or geographical related?
Are there any additional factors that affect physical activity/exercise, energy expenditure caused by physical activity, and total energy expenditure, (e.g., family obesity history, ethnic group, income, child-obese history, or disease states)?
High accuracy of IDEEA system will significantly reduce the amount of tests needed to derive significant results in shorter time.
